| STAGE TO SCREENS: A Drowsy Chat with "Smallville" Star John Glover ...
This month we talk to John Glover ("Smallville") who joins The Drowsy Chaperone as Man in Chair, and chat with filmmaker Amber Edwards and songwriter Jerry Herman about the PBS-aimed documentary "Words and Music by Jerry Herman." *** Fans of John Glover as the duplicitous Lionel Luthor in CW network's "Smallville" may not immediately recognize the character's similarity to Man in Chair in Broadway's The Drowsy Chaperone, but they will see another of the many portraits in the gifted actors gallery. A Tony winner as twins John and James Jekyll (he should have gotten two trophies) in Terrence McNally's Love! Valour! Compassion!, Glover succeeds Bob Martin (star of and Tony-winning co-librettist for the musical) on April 17. "My agent called and said, 'They're interested in you,'" explains the actor, "so I flew myself to New York and auditioned.
AT HOME ABROAD: Chess and snow capped mountains — II —Angela Williams
Oooh, looks like another Saddam! Wed better invade, quick, and liberate more poor, oppressed people from this ones weapons of mass destruction, hadnt we? Cos this time, those invisible weapons are nuclear! Before continuing the travelogue which I commenced last week, I should like to take time, since I cant resist it, to express my glee at the release, last Thursday, of the 15 British naval personnel from their two weeks of captivity in Iran. Im glad, of course, that those people are now safely home, but Im delighted to congratulate the Iranians on their masterly piece of gamesmanship which should serve to remind the rest of the world that the noble game of chess was developed by the Persians, well over one thousand years ago. Newly rich America and its lackeys play poker. Badly.
Blackouts give DirecTV a black eye
We start with Roy Bright, who says sales staff from DirecTV lied to him when they guaranteed he would be able to watch every St. Louis Cardinals baseball game broadcast this season by Fox Sports Network Midwest. Cardinals games on FSN, as reported here last week, are blacked out to satellite subscribers across a wide swath of central Illinois, plus areas of Iowa and Kentucky. A representative of DirecTV took exception to the word "lie" when I recounted Bright's story to him. The rep said it was more likely the sales personnel weren't equipped with correct information. That may be a pervasive problem at DirecTV. The rep identified himself as "Luke." He was very polite, but his helpfulness was limited. When I asked for his last name, Luke said he was not allowed to provide that information.
Ribadu: How US, EFCC probed Atiku
The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, last Wednesday, featured on America's National Public Radio, NPR, during which he expressed optimism that Nigeria would secure the United States' assistance to recover looted funds stashed away in America. Ribadu also spoke on how the US and Nigerian authorities probed Vice President Atiku Abubakar for corruption. Excerpts: POVERTY is almost as desperate in parts of Nigeria, which chooses a president this month. And people there might have a chance to vote for a candidate who's indicted. Courts have issued conflicting rulings on Nigeria's vice president, Atiku Abubakar, who wants the top job despite a corruption investigation. He says he's the victim of a political vendetta led by a man who dropped by our studios.

The Future of Coupons
NEW YORK, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Marketers who rely on the distribution of coupons to generate business, take notice. Consumers who are sick of taking out their scissors to clip coupons, look out! There are several new emerging media tactics that can be leveraged to distribute and redeem coupons. These methods may even prove to be more efficient than traditional tactics, such as inserts in the Sunday newspaper. ID Media, the largest direct and digital media services company in the U.S., recently tapped Josh Martin, Director of Emerging Media, to find out what the future holds for coupons and how emerging media channels can be implemented to give consumers the most bang for their buck. In the rapidly evolving digital age, broadband video, mobile devices and automated toll-free directory assistance have each emerged to become highly effective platforms for coupon distribution and redemption.
Terry McMillan and Plummer still sniping; McCartney and Mills make ...
Yes, sometimes life can sure do you wrong, just like Blue Magic sang about in "Sideshow." But when it does, you know what you have to do. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again. That's a song lyric, too, but it's also good advice. Remember, it's Friday. And if you just got paid, that makes it even better. On that note, we're gonna run to the bank. You check out this installment of the GBB. Terry McMillan and her ex-hubby Jonathan Plummer just can't seem to stay away from each other -- in court that is. "The How Stella Got Her Groove Back" author is suing Jonathan, the inspiration for that book, for $40 million, reports AP. The film version starred Taye Diggs and Angela Bassett. The lawsuit claims Mr.
