Del Paso schools may partner with Rio Linda

Several weeks after voting to end its management contract with one school district, the Del Paso Heights school board is moving toward striking up a new contract with another district.

The tiny Del Paso district -- which has a history of financial and academic problems -- has saved money over the last three years by contracting with the Grant Joint Union High School District for administrative services.

But a new majority on the Del Paso board voted to end that agreement in January, saying the district needs to be independent and develop its own leaders.

Andrade: Curry Shines in Lost Season For Knicks

For most of his six-year career New York Knicks center Eddy Curry has been a disappointment. No fronts on this level and Curry wore out his welcome in Chicago after four seasons with the Bulls, who grew impatient with his slow learning curve. As a fourth overall pick in the 2001 draft Curry was expected to help lift the franchise quickly after the dismantling of the Bulls dynasty of the 1990s. Instead he, along with center Tyson Chandler and a slew of other young hopefuls, did a lot of losing. Isnt that what young hopefuls do in the NBA? Well now that the Bulls have returned to respectability behind a new crop of next generation investments Curry is doing his thing in New York with the Knicks, another young team struggling to put the franchise back on the map after five years of playing off the radar.

Mayor still trusts bank

Recent findings against a Lafayette-based bank accused of unsound banking practices do not mean the city will remove its financial holdings.

Democratic Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski said he has no intention to remove $12.4 million in city utility money from Lafayette Community Bank.

"We're going to keep our money in Lafayette Community Bank," he said. "I have complete confidence with the bank."

He said he made the decision after discussions with city officials and ongoing discussions with the bank's chief executive officer.

The Indiana Department of Financial Institutions and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. issued a "cease and desist" order against the bank March 26, after months of investigation.

The state department and the FDIC said the bank engaged in hazardous lending and lax collection practices, operated with an inadequate level of capital protection for the kind and quality of assets held, operated with an excessive level of adversely classified loans and delinquent loans, and operated with inadequate internal routines and controls.

The multi-colored world of Bolaños

A lover of art she was once the Patron of the Arts and in her watchful eye, several artists were discovered. In the field of music, there are Cecile Licad and Rowena Arietta whom she sent to a Russian school to study piano. In the local art scene, Greg Bolaños is acknowledged as the King of Pastel. Greg is a quiet, reserved, unassuming and an extremely spiritual man. His serene demeanor is evident in his vast body of work.

The Bolaños paintings display the artist's affinity with nature. So close to, and so respectful of his chosen subjects, his paintings capture the ethereal quality of continuity, and the perpetuity of all that is natural. Greg's wonder of nature originated in his simple but idyllic, rural childhood. He has also been greatly influenced by the works of classic masters of the landscape: Turner, Renoir, Gainsborough and Van Gogh.
